On the slope of that hill lies a grave by the hot spring
With a mound in the earth reaching up to the sky
Overlooking the endless ocean, containing
One greater than the endless ocean and mightier
The light of sunrise revives it at every dawn
And morning weeps over it with relentless tears
Night leans over it frightened
Lighting moons and stars over it
Trees surround it as if
Mourners grieving, lamenting in pain
Stretching their shade over it, its face frowning
Whenever a sunbeam smiles through the branches
And doves mourn it with elegy and yearning
Cooing atop the branch, holding a funeral
The passerby pours a teardrop
And bows in sorrow, praying compassionately
He walks on, with a feeling in his heart
Of despair kindling his innards aflame
For a father the like of whom God never created
By his death, orphaned, utterly devastated
Father, you made me forget every orphan's destitution
By your death, twice made destitute
You were most generous until you owned it all
When you left, it was divided and gone
You were great of mind, heart, and manner
Noble, praiseworthy, magnificent
You were pure of spirit, faith, and refuge
Intrepid, courageous, steadfast
Your virtues the breeze relates as it blows
Gently over your noble grave in Islam
Father, if you could see me, my faint soul withered
Dragging an empty, crumbling body
A malady rends my heart, and the malady is fatal
When it rages I pray and it intensifies, shatters
I go with worries filling my chest
And return with calamities overflowing
Yes, if you could see, my chest breathes out its spirit
You would see horror and despair embodied
If only when you died, we had died together
To see the soil as reward and the end as profit
You became a soul in the heavens, trusted
While your body in the world to the earth surrendered
And I am devoted to both this and that
So woe to me from the world and woe from the sky
They sent me a drawing, in which I see
Your beauty dead, shrouded in loss
Our loved ones gathered around it, evoking sorrow
I saw them around the departed, swarming
I saw them unable to restrain their hearts’ pain
Over you, silent in grief and agony
And the hair spilled out
Gleaming, for separation became inevitable
You took refuge in death, but death is unjust
While you are silent, you will not speak
Father, where has what we had gone? For I see
Today my life your color darkened
I see no dawn, no twilight
But I see something of the night, pitch-black
Terror and doom smote it
Enshrouding it thickly with calamities
Phantoms circled, their eyes around it
Like fires hurling flames
The heart of the air shuddered, the air chilled
Its fires dripping blood on its folds
By your life, no man has been tried with calamities
More severe than those I have known, greater
Except a stop, O grave, that quells anguish
And gladdens this desperate orphan
I melt the blackness of my eyelids in grief
And water the soil until it shows mercy
I ask it about my father, how is he
When they lodged him in it an honored guest?
Gently and kindly I ask it to treat its guest
For he has the right not to be wronged or exploited
O his grave, every day and night
Upon you may the Lord of the Throne send prayers and peace
