تبدَّد الليلُ مضمحلا

إذ أَفَلَت أنجمُ العلأ

The night faded away, weakened,

As its stars began to disappear.

وأقبل الفجر مستهلا

يضاحكُ الأرضَ والسمأ

And dawn came into sight,

Smiling at the earth and the sky.

أطلَّ في الشرق زاهراً

تصبغه حمرةُ الشفق

It rose in the east, blossoming,

Dyed with the redness of the horizon.

يخترق الغيم باهرا

بنوره عندما ائتلق

It pierces the clouds, shining,

With its light when it collided with them.

ويرسل النورَ زائرا

يُنبِّهُ الطيرَ في الورق

And it sends glancing light

That awakens the birds in the leaves,

كأنما الكونُ إذا تجلى

وامتزج الليلُ بالضياء

As if the universe, when it appeared,

And the night mingled with the light.

بقيَّةُ البؤس حين ولّى

في مطلع السعدِ والهناء

The rest of misery departed

When the dawn of joy and delight came.

وأقبلت ربةُ النهار

في موكبِ النور رافعه

And the mistress of the day came

In a procession of light, raising

الويةَ النصر والفخار

ورديَّة اللون ساطعه

The banner of victory and pride,

Rosy in color, shining.

كأنها والنسيمُ ساري

في الروض يغدو الشذا معه

As if she and the breeze strolled

In the garden, the aroma accompanying them.

تاجُ عقيقٍ به تحلى

وزاد حسناً هذا الفضاء

Adorned with a crown of carnelian,

Which added more beauty to this open space,

أو مَلكُ عزٍّ وافى محلّا

يغمره الشرقُ بالبهاء

Or an angel of might who found

The east inundating it with splendor.

فقمتُ أمشي إلى الحقول

أشاهدُ الشمسَ مشرقه

So I walked to the fields,

Watching the beaming sun,

والنورُ من وجهها الجميل

يسكب في قلبي المِقَه

And the light from its beautiful face

Pours into my heart passionately.

في مسرحٍ بالضحى حفيل

حيث الرياض المنمقه

In a meadow filled with morning,

Where elegant gardens are located.

إن شئت ورداً أو شئت فلا

وكلها نابتُ الخلاء

If you wish for roses or wish not,

All are growing freely in the open space.

تقلَّد رونقاً وطلّا

وابتسمت بسمة الحياء

Adorned with grace and dew drops,

And smiled with a smile of shyness.

واستعرض العشبُ فرشه

خضراء مثل الزمرد

And the grass flaunted its rug,

Green like emerald,

إذ نشر الطيرُ ريشه

ملتمعاً فوقها ندي

When the birds spread their feathers,

Gathering atop it cheerfully.

وبارح الفرخُ عشه

في ملع الجِدِّ والدد

And the chick left its nest

In the beauty and adornment of the morning,

على الربى طائراً تعلّى

مستشرقاً هابط الجِواء

A bird rising high

Coming down through the air space.

يسبح اللَه مستقلّا

لواحفيه ملكُ الهواء

It swims freely in the void

With the king of the air accompanying it.

جئت إلى النهر قاصداً

جمامَ نفسي على حصاه

I came to the river on purpose,

To quench the thirst of my soul with its pebbles,

مسرَّحَ الفكرِ ناشداً

من العلا راحة الحياه

Appealing to the mind’s theater,

Seeking tranquility of life from the Most High.

انظر حولي إلى مدى

والشجرُ الخافرُ المياه

Look around me to the horizon,

And the trees leaning over the waters,

يرسم فوق المياه ظلّا

مضطرباً عابس الوراء

Casting shadows on the waters,

Disturbed, gloomy in appearance.

قلت لنفسي يا نفس مهلاً

لا ينفع الهمُّ والعناء

I said to myself, O soul take it easy,

Worry and sorrow are of no use.

فكل هذي الحصى نجومُ

على الرمال استقرَّتِ

For all these pebbles are stars

That settled on the sands.

والمرجُ وجه السما الوسيمُ

ولانهرُ نهرُ المجرَّةِ

And the meadow is the face of the beautiful sky,

And the river is the river of the galaxy.

والنبت زاهٍ به عميم

يبعث روحَ المسرَّةِ

And vegetation blossoms abundantly,

Emitting the spirit of joy.

والزهرُ فيه يشبه طفلا

ضجيج مهدٍ رحبٍ رخاء

And the flowers resemble a child,

The bustle of a vast, serene cradle,

إذا يهب النسيم سهلا

يلعب فيه كما يشاء

When the breeze blows gently,

Playing in it as it wishes.

الماءُ والنورُ والعبير

والرملُ والنبتُ والحصى

The water, the light, the fragrance,

The sand, the plants and the pebbles,

والنسمات التي تسير

والظلُّ إمّا تقلصا

And the breezes that blow,

And the shade, sometimes expanding, sometimes shrinking,

رمزٌ لكنٍ به السرور

على المدى قد تخصصا

Are symbols of serenity

That permeated the horizon.

وجاءَ هذا عنه مُقِلّا

بكل ما فيه من عَداء

And this came humbly,

With all the hostility in it.

يقتصُّ فيه الإلهُ عدلا

ممن بغى فيه أو أَساء

The God dispenses justice in it

Against those who transgressed or did wrong.

الكل في الكون لازم

حتى جماد بغير حس

Everything in the universe is destined,

Even inanimate objects without senses,

والحيوان المسالم

يسرح في مأمن وأنس

And the peaceful animal

Grazes in safety and comfort.

له الفضا والنواسم

وظلُّ دوحٍ ونورُ شمس

It has the space, the breeze,

And the shade of palms and the light of the sun.

واتَّخذ اللَه فيه كِفلا

لما يوافيه من غذاء

And God has taken it as a dependent

For the sustenance it receives,

يُنتج ولداً له وأهلا

ويُكثِر الخصبَ والنماء

It produces offspring for itself and a family,

And increases fertility and growth.

كذاك كل العناصر

تنضمُّ حتى تُوَحَّدا

Thus all elements

Join together until they unite.

أواصرٌ في أواصر

أوائل لن تعددا

Bonds within bonds,

Beginnings that will not multiply.

موصولةٌ بالأواخر

وهي بناءٌ تفردا

Connected to the ends,

And it is a singular structure.

لمن بناه فهو مصلّى

يُعبدُ فيه سرُّ البقاء

For the One who built it, He is worshipped,

The secret of existence is worshipped in it.

واللَه فيه عز وجلّا

يدبِّرُ الكلَّ بالسواء

And God in it, Almighty and Sublime,

Regulates everything equally.
