أَلا أَيُّها المَولى الجَليل لَكَ الهَنا

بِما نِلتَهُ لا زِلتَ تُبدي الفَضائِلا

O exalted Master, to You be praise

For the virtues You constantly display

رَأكَ مَليكُ الكَون تَحيي عَبيدُهُ

وَتَجذُب بِاللُطف الخَفيّ القبائِلا

The Ruler of the universe saw You give life to His servants

And attract the distant tribes with Your subtle kindness

فَأَبقاكَ في أَقطار بَيروت حاكِماً

تَبين الهُدى وَالحَقَّ لِلخَلقِ عادِلا

Thus He kept You in the regions of Beirut as a ruler

To elucidate guidance and justice to people with equity

وَوَلاكَ لُطفاً فَوقَ ذَلِكَ مَنصِباً

تَفضُّ بِسَيف الرَأي فيهِ المَشاكِلا

And furthermore entrusted You due to His grace with a position

To unravel problems with the sword of reason

فَقالَ العُلى ذا البُدرُ لَقَد جَلا

بِآفاقِ سوريا السِياسة كامِلا

The Most High, the full moon said: Verily he shone

Across Syria's horizons with perfect statesmanship
