عُوجوا عَلى تُونسَ الخَضراءِ وَاِبتَهِجوا

وَأَشفوا الظماءَ بِما تَحيي بِهِ المُهَجُ

Turn to verdant Tunis and rejoice,

And quench your thirst with what enlivens the passionate.

وَشاهِدوا في مَعالي المَجد بَدرَ هُدىً

أَعلامُهُ مِن حِبالِ النورِ تَنتَسِجُ

And behold in the heights of glory the full moon of guidance,

Its banners of light interwoven.

هُناكَ صادَحَةٌ في الأُفقِ يَطرِبَكُم

عِندَ اِستِماع الثَنا مِن لَحنِها هَزَجُ

There resounds in the horizon what excites you,

When you hear the melodious chant.

تَثني مُلوك البَرايا وَالشُعوب عَلى

مَولى لِسانُ العُلى في مَدحِهِ لهجُ

The kings of the lands and the peoples sing praises,

To the Lord whose eloquent tongue praises him.

الصادِقُ الفاضِلُ الفَردُ الَّذي اِنتَشَرَت

صِفاتُهُ فَغَدا يُستَنشَقُ الأَرجُ

The sincere, virtuous, unique one whose traits,

Spread till fragrance was inhaled.

شَمسٌ مِن الغَرب قَد مَدَّت أَشِعَّتُها

فَأَصبَحَ الشَرقُ يُبديها وَيَبتَهِجُ

A sun from the west spread its rays,

Till the east showed it and rejoiced.

قَد أَسَّسَ الهَدءَ في الأَقطارِ مُحتَفِظاً

عَلى العِباد فَلا طَيشٌ وَلا هَوَجُ

It established calm in the regions preserving,

The servants so no recklessness nor commotion.

وَشادَ لِلعَدلِ صَرحاً في مَعالِمِهِ

فَشيَّدَ الحَقَّ لا زيغٌ وَلا عِوَجُ

And built the citadel of justice in its milestones,

So truth was set straight no deviance nor crookedness.

في خَدِّ صارِمِهِ المَصقول مَنصله

ماءُ الجَمالِ بِماءِ المَوتِ مُنَدَمِجُ

In the polished blade of his decisive sword,

The water of beauty with the water of death blends.

وَفي فَمِ القَلَمِ المَرفوعُ قائِمُهُ

ماءُ الحَيوةِ بِماءِ الرُشدِ مُمتَزِجُ

And in the mouth of the raised pen its pillar,

The water of life with the water of righteousness mixes.

طَوراً بِبَسط الهَنا تَجري إِرادَتُهُ

وَتارَةً بِالقَضا المَحتوم تَندَرِجُ

Sometimes by extending prosperity his will flows,

And sometimes by ordained destiny it pours.

في بَطنِ راحَتِهِ الأَقدارُ قَد كَتَبَت

يا مَن بَغَى فَرَجاً هَذا هُوَ الفَرَجُ

In the palm of his hand destinies have written,

"Oh you who sought relief this is the relief."

وَفي سَما وَجهِهِ الهادي بِرَونَقِهِ

صُبحُ الرَجاءِ إِلى الأَفكارِ مُنبَلِجُ

And in the features of his guiding face in its splendor,

The dawn of hope to thoughts appears.

رِجالُهُ زانَتِ الأَعصارَ إِذ نُخِبَت

مِن كُلِّ شَهمٍ بِهِ العَلياءُ تَبتَهِجُ

His men pride of eras when chosen,

From every courageous the sublime rejoice over.

وَجيشُهُ الكاسِرُ الجَرّارُ عَسَكرُهُ بَحرٌ

جُيوشُ المَنايا خَلفَهُ لَججُ

And his mighty rumbling army, are an ocean,

Armies of demise behind it surge.

عِندَ الطرادِ طُيورٌ لا ثَباتَ لَها

وَفي الثَباتِ قِلاعٌ لَيسَ تَنزَعِجُ

Before the fleet birds with no steadfastness,

And in steadfastness fortresses that do not waver.

أَحيى المَعارفَ وَالآدابَ يَنشُرُها

فَاِرتَدَّ للعَربِ ذاكَ الرَونَقُ البَهجُ

He revived knowledge and literature spreading them,

So the prime luster returned to the Arabs.

نورُ التَمَدُّن في آفاقِهِ سَطَعَت

عَلى البَريَّةِ مِنهُ لِلهُدى سرُجُ

The light of civilization in its horizons shone,

Upon the wilderness from it to guidance lanterns.

يا صادِحاً في أَعالي الكَون يُطرِبُهُ

هَذي فَضائِلُهُ حدّث وَلا حَرَجُ

Oh you who cries out in the highest of cosmos exciting it,

These are his merits, narrate and do not hesitate.

فَقَد تَفَرَّدَ في الإِفضالِ مُرتَقياً

عَلى أَثيرٍ لَدَيهِ تَقصرُ الدرَجُ

For he is matchless in benevolence ascending,

Above aether for him the ranks are too short.

يَحيي البَرايا نَداهُ وَهُوَ مُنسَكِبٌ

وَمِن رِضاهُ بلايا الخُلقِ تَنفَرِجُ

He revives the lands his call, and he spills over,

And from his pleasure the people's afflictions unwrap.
