أَرى الأَقداحَ تعثرُ بِالقَناني

وَروحَ الراحِ تَعبَثُ بِالجِنانِ

I see the cups stumbling with the jugs

And the breeze of comfort playing with the gardens

تَصِفُّ نَجومَها جُنداً يُحامي

حِماً قَد قامَ فيهِ الفرقدانِ

Arranging its stars like an army defending

A sanctuary in which the Pleiades have risen

كانَّ كُؤسَها نُصِبَت حِراباً

تَسلّم حَيثُ لاحَ النيرانِ

Their cups were set up like battle gear

Taking over wherever the fires shone

وَفي الأَلباب نَشأتها اِستَدارَت

وَبي سُكرٌ بِغَيرِ طَلا الدَنانِ

And in hearts their drinking sprees flourished

While I was drunk without sipping the vine

فَلِلأَنوارِ بِالأَنظار فَتكٌ

بِهِ تَسبى العُيونُ لَدى العَيانِ

For lights there is murder in the eyes

With it the gazes commit felonies against what is seen

تَحجَّب في السَماءِ البَدرُ لَما

بَدا القَمران في هَذا المَكانِ

The full moon veiled itself when

The two moons appeared in this place

مُشيراً المَجد دَرويش المُفَدّى

وَأَسعَد مُخلِصٌ فَرد الزَمانِ

Signaling glory, al-Duraywish the redeemed one

And the most fortunate savior of the times

مُشيرٌ لِلجُنود بِهِ اِستَعَزَت

يَمد عَلى العُلى عَلَمَ الأَمانِ

Signaling to the soldiers with it they were honored

Raising over the heights the flag of safety

وَوالٍ لِلرَعيةٍ قَد تَرَدّى

مِن الإِخلاصِ أَشرَفَ طيلَسانِ

And a guardian of the subjects who sacrificed

From sincerity the most honorable attire

أَفاضا مِن أَثير المَجد فَضلاً

يُطَوِّقُ كُلَ جيدٍ بِالجُمانِ

Bestowing from the ether of glory a grace

That crowns every brave neck with awards

وَحِلماً يَغمُرُ الآفاقَ لُطفاً

وَأُنساً رَقَّ يُفرِجُ كُلَ عانِ

And clemency that gently overwhelms the horizons

And intimacy that melts to relieve every distress

وَحَزماً قامَ يَدفَعُ كُل خَطبٍ

وَرَأَياً دونَهُ السَيف اليَماني

And resolve that dispels every affliction

And opinion none can match but the right hand blade

أَلا يا أَيُّها العلمان شُكراً لَما

مَنَحتَهُ هتان اليَدانِ

Behold! O two pillars, thanks for what

These two hands have bestowed

خَليل عَلاكُما في الكَون أَضحى

يُتَرجِمُ عَن فِعالِكما الحِسانِ

Khalil, because of your actions the universe

Translates your benevolence

وَيُطلِقُ بِالنِيابَة كُل يَومٍ

لِسان الشُكر عَن أَهل الزَمانِ

And unleashes on your behalf each day

The tongue of gratitude from the people of the times
