بينَ حشاهُ لهبٌ مضرمُ

فدمعه يظهرُ ما يكتمُ

Among the flames a burning ember

His tears reveal what he tries to hide

متيمٌ ذو سقمٍ قلبُهُ

للشوقِ والأحزانِ مستسلمُ

A lovesick heart which illness resides

To longing and to sorrows he has surrendered

بكى فلم تبقَ له عبرةٌ

وليسَ بعد الدمعِ إلا الدمُ

He cried until no more tears would come

After the tears only blood remains

تمكنت من قلبهِ لحظةٌ

أسرَع فيها القدرُ المُبهَمُ

A moment took hold of his heart

In which obscure fate was swift to gain
