As for my eyelids, they are sorely afflicted,
From how long I have consigned them to sleeplessness.
And the heart, from all its sighs, is ablaze,
With longing’s burning thirst in the breast—ablaze.
O Lord, how I complain, yet have no rest!
What has my eye transgressed, and what has my hand earned?
O heart of one who loves, dwelling-place of sighs,
In estrangement, is there any boon or promised tryst?
