جفنٌ قريح وفتىً ناحلُ
أرَّقَ عينيهِ هوىً قاتِلُ
A slender youth with sleepy eyes,
His passion set my glance afire,
عالجَ من وجدٍ بهِ عِشرةً
يَيبسُ منها غصنُهُ الذابلُ
He cured his lovesickness through my love,
Reviving branches once gone dry.
فبعضُهُ يبكي على بعضهِ
وفيه منه شغلٌ شاغلُ
Each part laments another part,
Preoccupied, all-engrossing pain,
يا مدنفَ الأجفانِ صِل مُدنفاً
ضلَّ له المُسعد والعاذلُ
Oh he who shuts his lids, show kindness to one who's shut them too,
Both blessed and rejected strayed from love's true course.
