أما ونسيم السائمين منضداً
على وجنةٍ فيها الشقائق والوردُ
The zephyr blows gently
Over a cheek whereon grow the anemones and rose;
على غصنٍ غصٍّ من البان لم يطب
له الريح إلا زانه ذلك القدُّ
On a branch of Unnab, whose scent the breeze still sweetens;
That cheek and branch alike surpassing all beside.
لما أيست عيني بشيءٍ من البكا
وما كان من فقد الرقادِ لها بدُّ
Long had mine eyes wept till, despairing of relief,
Sleep fled my lids, and slumber sought in vain repose.
فلا قر قلبي ساكناً في مكانهِ
ولا كان منسوباً إلى غيرهِ الوجدُ
Restless my heart, and in its place no more at rest;
Swayed by despair, with grief it overflowed.
