1. يا نائمَ الطرفِ هناكَ الكَرى

    لم يَرثِ لي طرفُكَ ممَّا يَرى

    O you who sleeps with eyelids closed over there

    Your eyes have not inherited any tears from what they see

  2. لم تدرِ عَيني ما جَنى لحظُها

    حتى جَرى مِن دَمعها ما جَرى

    My eyes did not know what they had attained

    Until tears flowed from them as they flowed

  3. ما ضَرَّ من أنحلني هَجرُهُ

    لو رَدَّ مني وصلُهُ يا تُرَى

    It would not have harmed me if his estrangement had undone me

    If only his union would return to me, I wonder

  4. من كلِّ من أبصَرني خاضِعاً

    تاهَ لإجلالِ له وامتَرى

    Everyone who saw me humbled

    Wandered, awed by reverence for him, and hesitated
