1. غصنٌ ليسَ كالغصونِ نضيرُ

    كلُّ حسن من حسنهِ يستعيرُ

    A branch unlike all branches, unique

    All beauty borrows its beauty from him

  2. من إلى وجنتيهِ ينتسبُ الور

    دُ ومن وجهه سراجٌ منيرُ

    The full moon claims descent from his cheeks

    And from his face shines a brilliant light

  3. شهدَ العاذلونَ حينَ رأوهُ

    أنني في الهوى بهِ معذورُ

    When the censurers saw him, they testified

    That for loving him I have good excuse

  4. أقتل الناسِ للنفوسِ بطرفٍ

    صائبِ اللحظِ كانَ منه الفتورُ

    With a glance from eyes that kill gracefully

    He could also give respite and pardon
