جسدٌ بلا قلبٍ ولا كبدِ

كيفَ الصلاحُ لذلك الجسدِ

A body without a heart or liver

How can it be decent, that body?

مَن عَينه تبكي عليه له

ولما لها من دائمِ السهدِ

He who has an eye that weeps for him

For what it constantly suffers

يا سائلاً عني وعن دنفي

هذا عن الزفرات والكمدِ

You who ask about me and my shelter

This is about sighs and sorrows

ماذا جنت عينٌ بلحظتها

ويدي فلا بقيت عليَّ يدي

What has an eye reaped with its glance?

And my hands - if they remained my hands
