بكى وجداً بأجمده
مفرّاً من تجلده
He wept with all his being
Fleeing from his composure
قريح القلب موجعه
بوقعٍ من تسهُّده
The ache of his heart pained him
With an impact from its prostration
إلى قمرٍ منايا النا
ظِرين إليه في يده
Towards a moon, the palm trees' beloved
Looking at it in his hand
فتوك الطرف ساحره
بستر الغصن أغيده
The alluring glance enchanted him
The bough's bed enraptured him
يضاحك عطف صدغيه
البياض على تورده
The whiteness smiling on his cheek
Blushing with its redness
وتبكي عين ذي دنفٍ
سقيم الجسم مقعده
And the teary eye of the sickly one
Weeping in his disabled state
