إنَّ حبي بكى لرَح

مَتهِ من يلومُهُ

My love wept when he left,

Who can blame him?

وشكت حرَّ ما يُقا

سيهِ منهُ همومُهُ

And complained of the intense heat,

Matched only by his sorrows.

رحمةً للفؤادِ إذ

ليسَ صبرٌ يُقيمُهُ

Have mercy on my heart,

For patience cannot sustain it,

مِن ضَنى الشوقِ إلفُهُ

وهواهُ يُديمُهُ

Accustomed to pining for him,

And to love that makes it endure.
