لَهُ حَنجَرٌ رَحبٌ وَقَولٌ مُنَقَّحٌ

وَفَصلُ خِطابٍ لَيسَ فيهِ تَشادُقُ

He has a broad throat and refined speech,

And reasoned discourse without pretentiousness.

إِذا كانَ صَوتُ المَرءِ خَلفَ لَهاتِهِ

وَأَنحى بِأَشداقٍ لَهُنَّ شَقاشِقُ

If a man's voice comes from his inner self,

And he grimaces with gaping jaws,

وَقَبقَبَ يَحكي مَقرَماً في هِبابِهِ

فَلَيسَ بِمَسبوقٍ وَلا هُوَ سابِقُ

Mumbling incoherently in his babble,

He is neither preceded nor followed.
