I abstain from wine though it flows like gold
And is adorned with strings of pearl, not gravel.
I say not to the bearer’s hand and cheeks—
“Far be the one who composed of water and flame.”
And I am tired of the melody of the singer whose hand
Kindles hearts with strains of musical notes.
O gathering of play, I incline not toward you, nor
Does the company of the boon companion draw near.
And O watcher of her whom I love, sleep—
For you have been spared from me what you fear in Rajab.
A magnificent month, as though God has clothed
The creatures of the world in robes of honor.
The pure lineage, son of the pure lineage, son
Of the pure lineage, son of the pure lineage.
He enriches, when he effects opinions as a victor,
Without silks or Indian fabrics.
He invaded the enemies in peace, and they knew not
That the regiments were folded within books.
Good health was granted to you from God through it
Upon mankind, non-Arabs and Arabs.
