1. يا قَلْبُ كَمْ ذا الَّلجَجُ الفاضِحُ

    راحَ بِكَ البارِحُ والسَّانِحُ

    O heart, how much is this turbulent flood

    That swept you yesterday and is sweeping you today

  2. شَقِيتَ فِي الحُبِّ وَأَشْقَيْتَنِي

    وَرُبَّ جِدٍّ جَرَّهُ مازِحُ

    You suffered in love and made me suffer

    And many serious things were dragged by jest

  3. هَوِيْتُهُ بَدْراً عَلى بانَةٍ

    عَلى نَقاً مُثْقَلُهُ راجِحُ

    I loved him like a full moon over a lofty dune

    On a tender palm tree heavily laden

  4. اللَّيْلُ فِي طُرَّتِهِ مُبْهَمٌ

    عَلى جَبِينٍ صُبْحُهُ واضِحُ

    The night in its shawl is vague

    Upon a forehead whose morning is clear

  5. كَأَنَّما العَارِضُ فِي خَدِّهِ

    نَمْلٌ إِلَى شَهْدِ اللَّمَى سارِحُ

    As if the someone glancing at his cheek

    Is an ant heading to the nectar of beauty

  6. لَوْ ذُقْتَ لا ذُقْتَ جَنَى رِيقِهِ

    مِنْ دُرِّهِ النَّاصِعِ يا ناصِحُ

    If you tasted, you would have tasted the saliva of his mouth

    From his shining pearls, O sincere advisor

  7. عَذَرْتَ مَنْ أَنْتَ لَهُ لائِمُ

    رَحِمْتَ مَنْ أَنْتَ لَهُ كاشِحُ

    You excused whom you blame

    And pitied whom you accuse

  8. تَظنَّهُ لَمَّا رَنا وَانْثَنَى

    أَعْزل وَهْوَ السَّائِفُ الرَّامِحُ

    You thought, when he was soft and pliant,

    That he was chaste, yet he is the penetrating assailant

  9. القَلْبُ مِنِّي طائِرٌ خافِقٌ

    وَاللَّحْظُ مِنْهُ كاسِرٌ جارِحُ

    My heart is a bird fluttering from me

    And my gaze from it is a breaking assailant

  10. سَقَى وَزادَ الكَأْسَ مِنْ طَرْفِهِ

    فَكُلُّنا مِنْ سُكْرِهِ طافِحُ

    He quenched us and increased the cup from his mouth’s edge

    So we are all drunk with its intoxication

  11. راحٌ تَطِيرُ النَّارُ مِنْ دَنِّها

    كَأَنَّما بازِلُها قَادِحُ

    A gazelle whose fire burns from its farness

    As if its guardian is the igniting kindler

  12. أَْنَكَرها الخَمَّارُ ضَنّاً بِها

    حَتَّى هَدانا عَرْفُها الفَائِحُ

    The wine-pourer denied it avariciously

    Until its strong fragrance guided us

  13. فُزْنَا بِها عَذْراءَ غانِيةً

    بِخَتْمِها ما افْتَضَّها فَاتِحُ

    We found through it a singing virgin

    With a seal unbroken by any deflowerer

  14. يا نائِماً وَالنَّجْمُ فِي غَرْبِهِ

    وَالصُّبْحُ مِنْ مَشْرِقِهِ لائِحُ

    O sleeping one, while the star is setting

    And the dawn is brilliant from its rising place

  15. دَعْ كَدَرَ العَيْشِ وَخُذْ ما صَفا

    تَحْيَ وَيَشْقَ الدَّائِبُ الكَادِحُ

    Leave life's disturbances, and take the pure

    To live, while the toiling distressed one complains

  16. قَد نَضَحَ الطَّلُّ رِداءَ الرُّبَا

    وَاشْتَجَرَ الباغِمُ وَالصَّادِحُ

    The dark night has donned the dress of monks

    And the raging thunderer and cloudburst roar

  17. وَجَادَتِ الدُّنْيا عَلى أَهْلِهَا

    وَاصْطَلَحَ الأَشْرَفُ وَالصالِحُ

    The world was generous to its people

    And the noble and righteous became reconciled

  18. مَلْكانِ صِنْوانِ كَرِيمانِ ذا

    بَحْرٌ وَهذا عارِضٌ سافِحُ

    Two honorable and generous kings

    One has a sea and the other a pouring rain

  19. طَودانِ لِلأرْضِ هُما المُلْتَجا

    بَدْرانِ يَسْتَهْدِيهِمَا اللاَّمِحُ

    Two pillars for the land they have reconciled

    Two full moons guided by the bright one

  20. موسى وَمَحْمودٌ إِذْا اسْتَجْمَعا

    قُلْتُ وَقَوْلِي صَادِقٌ وَاضِحُ

    Moses and Mahmoud when they come together

    I say and my words are clear and true

  21. ذا يوسفٌ رُدَّ أَخوهُ لَهُ

    وَماتَ ذاكَ النَّازِعُ النَّازِح

    This is Joseph whose brother has returned to him

    And that disputant and troublemaker has died

  22. اليَوْمَ تَصْلَى صَفَحاتُ العِدَى

    نِيرانَ حَرْبٍ ريحُها لافِحُ

    Today the pages of enmity pray

    The fires of war whose winds blow

  23. اليَوْمَ تَهْتَزُّ مُتونُ القَنا

    وَيَسْتَطِيرُ الشَّيْظَمُ القادِحُ

    Today the bases of spears shake

    And the igniting sparks fly

  24. اليَوْمَ دارُ الشِّرْكِ مَأْهولَةٌ

    يَأْوِيْ لَها الصَّائِحُ وَالنّائِحُ

    Today the house of polytheism is inhabited

    By those wailing and crying

  25. موسى جَزاكَ اللَّهُ عَن دِينِهِ

    خَيْراً فَما أَنْصَفَكَ المَادِحُ

    Moses, may God reward you for His religion

    With goodness, though the praisers were not fair to you

  26. سَعَيْتَ فِي جَمْعِ شَتاتِ العُلَى

    لِلَّهِ هذَا العَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ

    You strove to unite the elite pearls

    For God, this is a righteous deed

  27. أَقْرَرْتَ عَيْنَ المُصْطَفَى أَحْمدٍ

    فَوَجْهُهُ مُسْتَبْشِرٌ واضِحُ

    You delighted the eye of Mustafa Ahmad

    So his face is cheerful and bright

  28. مَلْكٌ يَرَى أَنَّ اكْتِسابَ العُلَى

    تِجارَةٌ خاسِرُها رابِحُ

    A king who sees gaining supremacy

    Is a losing trade, yet its loser is the gainer

  29. يَسْعَى إِلَى الآفَاقِ إِحْسانُهُ

    كالبَحْرِ غادٍ ماؤُهُ رائِحُ

    His benevolence spreads to the horizons

    Like an overflowing sea, its water sweeping

  30. مُمَنَّعُ الجَارِ مُباحُ النَّدَى

    لِلَّهِ ذاكَ المَانِعُ المَانِحُ

    Impregnable to the neighbor, kind to the groves

    For God, the withholder and giver

  31. كالغَيْثِ لَوْلا الجَهْمُ مِنْ جُونِهِ

    كالَّليْثِ لَوْلا وَجْهُهُ الكالِحُ

    Like rain, were it not for the ungratefulness from its clouds

    Like a lion, were it not for its grim face

  32. قُلْ لِمُعادِيهِ ارْتَجِعْ سالمِاً

    فَهْوَ سَماءٌ سَعْدُها ذابِحُ

    Say to his enemies, turn back in peace

    For he is a sky whose good fortune is slaughtering
