زارَني خائِفاً وَقَد جَثَمَ اللَي

لُ وَنامَ الحُرّاسُ وَالرَصَدُ

He came to me fearful, as the night

Spread its cloak and the guards fell asleep at their posts.

جَرَّهُ سُكرُهُ وَساوَرَهُ الخَو

فُ فَوافى سَكرانَ يَرتَعِدُ

Intoxication pulled him along, and fright gripped him,

So he came to me, drunk and shaking with fear.
