ماذا تَرى في جُدِيٍّ

وَبُرمَةٍ وَبَوارِد

What do you think of a young goat,

a cooking pot, and cold dishes,

وَقَهوَةٍ ذاتِ لَونٍ

يَحكي خُدودَ الخرائِد

and wine whose color

mimics the cheeks of secluded maidens,

وَمُسمِعٍ يَتَغَنّى

مِن آلِ يَحيى بنُ خالِد

and a singer, singing away,

from the house of Yahya ibn Khalid?

إِنَّ المُضيعَ لِهذا

نَزرُ المُروءَةِ بارِد

Surely, whoever neglects all this

is cold and scant in noble character.
