Does pure drink now cause pain, after the son of Hamdun is gone?

The beverages were muddied, after they had been so clear.

With his loss, the hyena grew bold, and after him

Poisonous desert creatures crept toward us.

    فَمِن أَيِّ وَجهٍ جئتَهُ فَهوَ قاطِبُ

    The face of Time soured after he left us;

From whatever way you approached, its look was grim.

With whom can I force open the firmly barred door,

When the processions crowd against it someday?

Through whom can I attain the farthest goals? Who, thanks to his fame,

Can acquire for me all I seek?

I have become, since his house is bereft,

A neighbor to its wall, and the stars seek refuge in me.
