بِأَبي الزائِرُ الَّذي
زارَ بَعدَ اِنقِطاعِهِ
By my father, who's absence
Had endured too long, returned
كَشَفَ البَدرَ لِلوَرى
كَشفَهُ عَن قِناعِهِ
As the moon unveils its face
From behind its veil.
لَم أَزَل طولَ لَيلَتي
ساهِراً في اِنخِداعِهِ
All night long I stayed awake
Deceived in hoping for his return.
كَلَّما رُمتُ وَصلَهُ
زادَني في اِمتِناعِهِ
Each time I tried to bid him stay
He slipped further from my grasp.
ثُمَّ وَلّى مودِّعاً
حَزني مِن وداعِهِ
Then he turned to leave again
Adding to my sorrow.
