زها الأفق الشرقي من بعد سدقةٍ

من الليل ولى لم يطف بي سمارُ

The eastern horizon dawned after the darkness

Of night departed though dawn did not shine on me

وبيني وبين الشمس كادت تلوح لي

سحابٌ بدا رهواً على الأفق ستارُ

Between me and the sun about to appear

Were clouds like a curtain drawn over the horizon

فمدت إليهِ الشمس بعد شروقها

أشعتها فاستعجبتني أنظارُ

When the sun rose after daybreak

Its rays surprised me

رأيتُ عجيباً من صناعة قادرٍ

جبالاً من البلور من خلفها نارُ

I saw the wondrous work of the Almighty

Mountains of crystal with fire behind them

وإلا فنهراً من دمِ الليلِ ثلهُ

ذبيحاً سنان الصبح ملطبهُ الثارُ

Or a river of the night's blood whose waves

Were stirred by the swords of dawn, their tips ablaze

أو الذهب المصهور ضيفَ لزئبقٍ

إذا جاز من ذوب الجمادين أنهارُ

Or molten gold, guest of quicksilver

When the melting of solids creates rivers

يوازيه خط أغبرُ اللون في الثرى

من الزرع مخضراً به العقلُ يحتارُ

Matching it, a grey line on the soil

Green crops that bewilder the mind

ومن فضةٍ خطٌ هو النيلُ جارياً

وقد زهيت بي فوق شاطئهِ الدارُ

And a silver line, the Nile flowing

Its banks shone around my house

فطالعت لوحاً يدهش العقل رسمه

وأبدعه رب له الملك قهارُ

I looked upon a scene to astonish the mind

Created by the Lord to whom mighty power belongs

وسلط قُرصُ الشمس من نور ربه

شعاعاً محا لوحى أيمحوه أنوارُ

The sun’s disk shone with its Lord's light

Rays that effaced the scene, no trace survives

هو الكوكبُ السيارُ قد ذر قرنهُ

على الكون فانجابت غيومٌ وأسحارُ

It was the wandering star that tossed its crown

Over the universe, clouds and night prevailed

شهدت بان اللَه محكم صنعهِ

وأن كثيراً في الخليقة كفارُ

I testify that God's work is firmly constructed

Though many in creation deny

فإن يقيني في الحقيقة مؤنسي

وقوة إيماني وإن هجر الجارُ

My faith and conviction comfort me

Even if neighbours abandon me

برئت من الغاوين في تيه غبوةٍ

وحولي أنوارٌ تلوحُ وأسرارُ

I am innocent of the misguided in their blindness

Lights and secrets shine around me
