اللَه الأول في الأزل
واللَه الأخرُ في الأبدِ
God is the First in pre-eternity
And God is the Last in post-eternity
ما قبل الأولِ من قبل
ما بعد الآخرِ من بعد
Before the First, there was nothing before
After the Last, there is nothing after
والعقل كليلٌ في جهلٍ
بأمور الروح وأمرِ غدٍ
And the mind is feeble in ignorance
Of spirit's affairs and the matter of tomorrow
لا أدركَ كنهُ الكونِ ولا
ماز المحدود من الحد
It does not grasp the essence of the universe or
The boundary of the finite from the infinite
ما أدركَ سر النجم ولا
سر الآلاءِ أو الوقد
It does not know the secret of the star or
The secret of graces or embers
يا عبد اترك عقداً شدت
ستموت بلا حل العقدِ
O servant leave off from knotty problems
You will die without untying knots
إياك وأن تعتد بما
يأتي من عقلٍ معتد
Beware to depend on what comes
From an arrogant mind
كم غش العقل أخا وهنٍ
فغدا كالركن المنهد
How the mind deceives, O brother, and weakness
Thus becoming like a shaking pillar
حيران فيؤمن في حالٍ
وبأحوالٍ كالمرتد
Perplexed, so believes at times
And in states like an apostate
سلم للّهِ الأمرَ تفز
واعبد واجهد كل الجهد
Submit God’s command and you will win
Worship and strive with all effort
واستعط اللَه فنعماه
جلت عن حصرٍ أو عد
And seek provision from God for His bounty
Is beyond enumeration or limit
واللَه كفيلٌ بك ما لم
ترج المخلوقَ وتستجدِ
And God guarantees you as long as
You do not hope for help from creation
إن فاتك عون اللَه فلا
أملٌ في عونكَ من أحدِ
If you miss God's help, then there is no
Hope in anyone's help for you
فاجعل وجهتك إلى المولى
وفت الأثقال إلى الصمد
So make your goal to the Master
And unload your burdens to the Eternal Refuge
يا رب أجرني من نفسي
ولساني يزري بي ويدي
O Lord, protect me from my soul
And my blaming, fault-finding tongue and hand
يا رب احفظني من مالي
ففتون المالِ من الكيد
O Lord, protect me from my money
For the trial of wealth is sly
يا رب أجرني من جاري
إن جار ومن شر اللدد
O Lord, protect me from my neighbor
Whether a neighbor or enemy of malice
يا رب اكفلني واحفظني
من عيشٍ ممنونٍ نكد
O Lord, sponsor me and protect me
From a life of ingratitude and grief
يا رب اجعل حب الدنيا
لا يخطر يوماً في خلدي
O Lord, let not the love of this world
Ever occur in my heart
يا رب حنانك فانفعي
برسول اللَه وبالمدد
O Lord, Your mercy so benefit me
Through the Messenger of God and through aid
يا رب ووفق لجوابِ الملكينِ
ونور لي لحدي
O Lord, and grant me success in answering the two angels
And light for me in my grave
