الخلق يحزن للشباب إذا مضى

لكن كذا الدنيا إذا عرفوها

The people grieve for youth when it passes away

Yet such is the world, if they understood it

قطعوا العصى من الفروع طرية

والناس قالوا الخير لو تركوها

They cut the branch while still green

And people said it would be best left alone

تعلو وتورف قل وبعد ألم تشخ

والناس بالرائين منتظروها

It would grow tall and plentiful despite the pain

Yet people await the seers

بالنار والمنشار إما أثثوا

منها أثاثاً أوهموا حرقوها

Whether with fire or saw they utilize it

Making furnishings from it or pretending to burn it
