O verdant sarḥa tree beside the water,
may my tears water you if your waterer fails you.
Shame on you, with all this shade spread wide,
to leave one like me stifled by noon heat within your bounds.
Who will lend me the wings of a melodious bird,
that I may range your heights in song,
never to be driven from the land where you were planted,
nor let any valley but yours ring with my voice?
