أدَّك أمير الأَغصان

من غير مكابر

You lead the branches

Without pretense

وَورد خَدّك سُلطان

على الأَزاهر

And your rose cheeks rule

Over all flowers

وَالحب كلّه أشجان

يا الب حاذر

And all love is passion

O heart, beware!

وَالصد وَيّا الهجران

جَزا المُخاطر

Of rejection and estrangement

The reward of risk-takers

يا الب اد انتَ حبّيت

وَرجعت تندم

O heart, if you have loved

And returned regretting

صبحت تَشكي مالإيت

لك حدّ يرحم

You started complaining of what I did

No one has sympathy for you

صَدّأت أولى وَرإيت

ذل المتيم

You saw the right course first

And the humiliation of the longing one

ياما نصحتك ونهيت

لو كنت تفهم

How much I advised you and warned you

If only you would understand

أعرض لحسنك أوراء

واكتب وادَوِّن

Turn away from your beauty

And write it down

وَابت صريع الأَشواء

وَاحسب وَاخمّن

And spend the nights awake

Calculating and guessing

داهجر وصبابه وفِراء

يا رب هوّن

Wandering, distracted, and restless

O Lord, make it easy!

وارحم الوب العشّاء

دا شيء يجنن

And have mercy on the sleepless lover

It's maddening
