No, by chaste love and longing,
No, not by longing or passion or sorrow,
my reprover’s rebukes over you are of no avail.
Will my reproach of you be of any use.
I, despite rejection and prolonged estrangement,
Though you are harsh and aloof,
remain true to the covenant and the pledge.
I remain true to my vow and promise.
O my reprover, desist and make allowance for me;
My reproacher, be brief and excuse me,
do not prolong your blame of me for my sleeplessness.
Do not prolong blaming me in my misery.
For whenever I picture his hair,
For his hair, however I imagine it,
I keep weeping alone in the dark of night.
I remain weeping alone in the darkness.
I would ransom him, so sweet and fair of beauty,
I ransom him with sweet, graceful redemption,
who surpasses the boughs in stature.
He sways upon the branches flexibly.
His gaze, drunk on the wine of slumber,
The delight of his wine of life astonished me,
exceeded all bounds in slaying me.
Exceeding my slaying with ecstasy.
He swayed coquettishly and gazed, saying:
He walked gently, speaking softly,
“White sword-blades and tawny spears are among my troops.”
White gazelles and brown partridges are my troops.
And he cleft my heart and turned away, admiring himself,
And my heart melted, bent in admiration,
and said to me, “How do you find my figure?”
And he said to me, “How do you see my stature?”
And he said to the rose, “Are you not ashamed
And he said to the rose, “Are you not shy
before me, when you bloom upon my cheek?”
When you bloom on my cheek?”
My love poetry is about him, and my praise is for one
My love for him who ascended high
who rose to the heights while still in the cradle.
While still an infant in the cradle.
Who is like Ismail, whose views
One whose views like Ismail’s
are penetrating and guide to sound judgment?
Are penetrating, guiding to righteousness.
A king whose noble deeds have grown abundant,
A king whose noble traits have become
extending bounty to all people.
Abundant, enriching all people.
A source of justice, whose command holds sway;
A source of justice whose rule prevails,
a sea whose waters have become sweet to drink.
An ocean turned sweet as rose-water.
All have agreed that he
All have agreed that he
is unrivaled in glory in this age.
Stands alone in glory in this age.
Good fortune has become one of his servants;
Good fortune itself has become
hence people are enamored of good fortune.
His loyal servants, so people yearn for bliss.
O spreading tree of might, our Egypt has come
O Dawood, our Egypt has become a source
through him to resemble the Garden of Eternity.
Of honor, rivaling the eternal garden.
May the festival rejoice; through you it has gained
With you, its virtues are too many to count,
merits too great to count.
So with you it has become an Eid, a celebration.
