If gold is brought to an ear,
When pure amber is brought to the ear
its purest part stumbles in the dust.
Its essence stumbles in the bramble.
And if Roosevelt brings something inferior to it
And if meaner stuff precedes it
to that ear, the companies of speech stand aside.
The ranks of speech defer to it.
You spoke truly, and whoever did not say this was wrong:
You speak truly. But errs who fails to say:
“The president's speech is the chief of speech.”
The leader's words are foremost speech.
