I seek God's forgiveness for an age in which I was beset
I seek Allah's forgiveness from an era that surrounded me
By the two evils—rank and wealth.
In which the wicked of status and wealth enveloped me
I seek God's forgiveness for Fahmi and his followers,
I ask Allah for forgiveness from my understanding and its followers
And for Abbati, and for Fakhri, and for Ghali.
From my gowns, from my pride, from my valuables
If I could, I would ride upon all mankind,
If I were able, I would mount all of mankind
To the Hijaz, as a traveler departing in loathing.
To the Hijaz, mounting the saddled camel
