1. I feared You until it was said that I did not trust

    that You pardon much and show mercy.

  2. And I hoped until it was said, 'He has no fear

    of God—of Hell scorching faces.'

  3. So in my condition, O my Lord, my plight is bewilderment,

    which You, apart from all creation, know best.

  4. Release me from the doubt that has surrounded me;

    for my plight in both my states, O my Lord, is obscure.

  5. Command the veils to be lifted from You, so I may receive guidance

    plainly, and a sinner may tread the path of truth.
