How wondrous the Nile, how splendid its qualities!
How lovely is the Nile, how charming are its banks,
On its two banks stand great, spreading trees.
Lined with trees in couples row on row.
From the Garden of Eternity, it pours abundantly into canals,
As though it flowed from Paradise so bright it flows,
In which spirits waft like the wind.
Stirred by the breeze, life-giving as it goes.
Its rise is not water, as they claimed;
It swells not from the rains, as some have claimed,
Rather, it is nothing but sustenance and profit.
But brings instead rich goods and profits ample.
