1. Indeed, I ask God's forgiveness for you.

    O people of Egypt, there are no men among you.

  2. My edge is blunted, I see, by your slumber

    And your contentment with the occupation's presence.

  3. My voice grew hoarse as I called, urging you to rise,

    Shouting until exhaustion overcame me.

  4. I found no young man among you with resolve,

    Who would attack if Fate attacked, or charge if it charged.

  5. May God have mercy on a minister who was pressed

    By his people to do what he would not accept, and so resigned.
