1. O you who shoot from beneath the wings

    of Providence at the one they shelter!

  2. And God, above the wrongdoers,

    and above their wrongdoing, keeps watch.

  3. What have you done, when between you and what

    you attempted, swords are drawn,

  4. and Orion's stars—which

    are the necklace—are unstrung in sequence?

  5. God has armor; every sword

    is blunted before its protective strength.

  6. Al-Husayn escaped unharmed; an arrow went astray,

    fletched by folly and ignorance.

  7. Tell the one who shoots at the full moons:

    Beware, lest an arrowhead strike you.

  8. Trifling beneath God's shadow is not,

    as the ignorant suppose, easy.
