وَعِلقٍ تَعَلَّقتُهُ بَعدَ ما
غَدا مِنهُ كُلُّ جَديدٍ خَليعا
And I attached myself to a notable man, after
every new thing he owned had become a castoff.
لَهُ ضَيعَةٌ كُلَّما أَمحَلَت
يَعيشُ وَإِن أَخصَبَت ماتَ جوعا
He has an estate: whenever it turns barren,
he lives; but if it grows fertile, he dies of hunger.
