دَبَّ العِذارُ بِخَدِّهِ فَتَعَذَّرا

مِن بَعدِ ما قَد كانَ بَدراً نَيِّرا

The sadness showed on his cheek, so we excused him,

After he had been a shining full moon.

وَتَناقَصَت أَحوالُهُ فَكَأَنَّهُ

الحِبالُ يَمشي في المَعاشِ إِلى وَرا

His circumstances diminished, as if

He walks the path of life with ropes tied.
