1. أرى الحر عبداً للذي سيبُ كفهِ

    شراهُ بما قد غاظهُ غايةَ الحمدِ

    I see the free man a slave to him who left his palm

    Bought him with what had angered him, exceeding praise

  2. على أن ملكَ الحر أسنى ذريعةً

    إلى المجد من مالٍ يصانُ ومن عبدِ

    For the free man's kingdom is a better path

    To glory than protected wealth or slave

  3. وإن خص بيعُ ملكِ حر بنعمةٍ

    إذا قوبلت بالشكر قارنها المجدُ

    And though the sale of a free man's realm with bounty

    When met with thanks, glory accompanies it
