هَل مامَضى مِنكِ يا أَسماءُ مَردودُ
أَم هَل تَقَضَّت مَعَ الوَصلِ المَواعيدُ
Can what has passed between us, O Asmāʾ, be restored?
Or have the promised meetings ended along with our union?
أَم هَل لَياليكِ ذاتُ البَينِ عائِدَةٌ
أَيّامَ يَجمَعُنا خَلصٌ فَبَلدودُ
Or will your nights—the nights of parting—return,
those days when Khulṣ, then Baldūd, brought us together?
