كَأَنَّما مَضمَضَت مِن ماءِ مَوهِبَةٍ
عَلى شَبابيِّ نَخلٍ دونَهُ المَلَقُ

إِذا الكَرَى غَيَّر الأَفواهَ وَاِنقَلَبَت
عَن غَيرِ ما عَهِدَت في نَومِها الريَقُ
When fate made mouths change and turn away
From what they were used to in their spittle's slumber
