لِلَّهِ دَرُّكَ مِن فَتىً فُجعَت بِهِ

يَومَ البَقيعِ حَوادِثُ الأَيّامِ

Your loss is dear from a young man whose death

Grieved me on the day misfortunes struck in Al-Baqee‘

هَشٌّ إِذا نَزَلَ الوفودُ بِبابِهِ

سَهلُ الحِجابِ مُؤَدَّب الخِدّامِ

Gentle when delegations come to his door

Easy of access, cultured in his companions

فَإِذا رَأَيتَ شَقيقَهُ وَصَديقَهُ

لَم تَدرِ أَيُّهُما أَخو الأَرحامِ

So when you see his brother or his friend

You cannot tell which has the closer blood tie
