This daughter of Yusuf’s house has been struck down
by the Fates; and Time mourned its Joseph.
At twenty-one years of age, she passed away—alas—
like a flower the decrees of Fate went forth to pluck.
She left Ibrahim’s home, journeying away
from the house of Ayyub, with sorrows following close behind.
She left her child sobbing in the cradle,
weeping for her, yet unable to turn her back toward him.
She hastened away to her Lord, the All-Forgiving;
when He called her, she did not linger or pause.
Thus the scribe who set down her chronogram proclaimed:
“Sultana’s station is among the hosts of the Throne.”
