From Gabriel Eid’s home she passed away
to an abode where heavenly reward is won.
A young woman of the house of al-Shammāʿ became
like a bough that withered in the bloom of youth.
Indeed, she joined her two children and left behind
for him two children in grievous lamentation.
She vanished from him into the darkness of a grave;
there Labība remained behind the veil.
So he spent the night beside her grave, composing her death-chronogram and weeping
for a moon that had vanished into the dust.
