وما أخطأت من نشب فمما
رمى فأصابني حظ الأديب
Not one shaft missed me—whatever was
shot struck me: such is the poet’s lot.
يصيب السهم وهو بكف مخط
ويخطي السهم في كف المصيب
An arrow hits, though held by one who misses;
an arrow misses in the hand of one who hits.
