1. فصل الربيع شبيبة الأزهارِ

    طلق بزهو تبسم النوارِ

    Springtime, the youth of flowers

    Radiantly smiles with light

  2. زمن الورود قصيرة أعماره

    وكذا الورود قصيرة الأعمارِ

    The season of roses, short lived

    Just like the roses, short lived

  3. زمنٌ يتيه الورد فيه تبخترا

    بشذاه في الأنجاد والأغوارِ

    A season where roses wander drunk

    With their fragrance in valleys and plains

  4. ومصفق الصهباء في وضح الضحى

    للشاربين مريق الأسحارِ

    And golden apricots at dawn

    Quench the thirst of early risers

  5. شوقي إلى نوّار نجد متهما

    شوق الفرزدق منجداً بنوارِ

    My longing for the lights of Najd

    Is like Al-Farazdaq's for Munjad's lights

  6. يا ربَّ سارية تروح وتغتدي

    ببروقها فتضيء ليل الساري

    O Lord, the lightning roams and returns

    With its flashes, lighting up the dark night

  7. بكرت تقلد منه أعناق الربى

    بقلائد كقلائد الأبكار

    Dawn donned the necks of maidens

    With necklaces like those of virgins

  8. فكأنَّ سافرة اليفاع خرائد

    عقدت تمائم يافع الأزهارِ

    As if the caravan of storms were brides

    Adorned with floral ornaments

  9. وكأن أعين عين نرجس روضها

    حدق الظباء كواسر الأبصار

    As if the eyes of narcissi meadows

    Gazed like the glances of gazelles

  10. وكأنّ رافلة الغصون عرائسٌ

    لابن الصليب عواقد الزنارِ

    As if the dangling branches were brides

    Betrothed with veils for the Son of the Cross

  11. كم من مهاً للروض قرَّطها الندى

    قرطا وسوَّر كفها بسوارِ

    How much dew has the meadow dotted

    With pearls and ringed its palm with bracelets

  12. من كل مخطفة الموسط رودةٍ

    خطرت تميس بدعص رمل هارِ

    From every alluring valley, a rose bud

    Sways, touching the skirts of barren sands

  13. ومرقص القرطين فوق امعقص

    جعد يمج بليل مسك داري

    The trunks of palm trees above stony ground

    Curl, overflowing with the night's musk

  14. يفترُّ عن خصرٍ كأن رضابه

    الأسفنط أو كالأري للمشتارِ

    Revealing a waist as if its straps

    Were satin or soft as silk

  15. وأدقّ ما خطَّ الجمال بوجه

    حرفان ميم فم ولام عذارِ

    The most delicate lines beauty has drawn

    Are the letters meem, fa, and lam of coquetry

  16. صلت الأسيل طلى الذكاء بخده

    ذهباً وحلَّ لجينة الأقمار

    Dawn joined gold to wit on his cheek

    And the moon to his smooth chin

  17. شرق الترائب يشرئب فأنثني

    والعين تشرق بالنجيع الجاري

    Pleiades sparkled, so I swooned

    As my eyes radiated with flowing light

  18. وحديد نصل اللحظ أوسع في الحاش

    جرحا يقيء حديدة المسبار

    And the blade of a glance is most painful

    Inflicting wounds that spew like a gushing well

  19. من لي ووخط الشيب غازل مفرقي

    بغزيَّل يرنو بعين الضاري

    Who is mine when the hair of old age flirts with me

    With a braid that aims at the eyes of the jealous

  20. أأبا الرضاء وتلك دعوة شيق

    شرقٍ بحافل دمعه التيار

    O Father of Contentment, that beloved call

    From an East flooding with tears

  21. أترى يسومك سلوة في مورد

    قمنٍ بوردِ الحب والإصدارِ

    Do you think days in an abode will appease you

    With love's roses and vines?

  22. وافاك شوقي مغضبا يطأ الربى

    حران يلهب كالشهب الواري

    Longing for you angry, trampling the knolls

    Ablaze, like shooting stars

  23. يجري بمضمار العلوم مجليا

    فينير مبهم ذلك المضمار

    Galloping in the race track of knowledge

    Lighting up its vague course

  24. وشمائل مثل الشمول حديثها

    أشهى لسمعي من صدى المزمارِ

    His qualities, embracing like an umbrella

    More delightful to my hearing than the tune of a flute

  25. وفضائلا ملء الزمان فواضلا

    محسوسة بالعين والآثارِ

    And virtues filling the times with nobility

    Tangible to the eye and traces

  26. خلق تضمخ بالخلوق وقدرة

    نشأت بكف مصرف الأقدارِ

    Created saturated with ethics and ability

    Raised by the hand directing fates

  27. ذاكٍ به بهر الرياض تطرزت

    حافاتها بشقائق وبهارِ

    He dazzled meadows adorned

    With anemones and blossoms

  28. واقرِ السلام عليه عني لاثماً

    كفّاً تكف العسر بالأيسارِ

    Greet him peace from me, kissing

    A palm that eases hardship with ease

  29. ولئن أقصر في القريض فواجب

    فضلي يطول لديه لا أشعاري

    If my ode falls short, my duty to him

    Is endless, not like my poetry

  30. لو لم يقص الشعر منك قوادم الش

    شعراء طاروا فيه كل مطارِ

    Had poetry not shortened your steps

    Poets would have flown in it like all birds

  31. خذها إليك خريدة معطارة

    أزرت بكل خريدة معطار

    Take it to you, a perfumed gift

    I have adorned with every perfumed scent

  32. تسري الصبا علوية بأريجها

    فيغار من رياه نفح الغرا

    Youth wanders above with its fragrance

    Jealous of its air is the aroma of aloeswood

  33. ولك الصفا يا من جنى مختارها

    ولك الخيار ولستُ بالمختارِ

    You who picked its choice blooms, yours is purity

    Yours is the choice, I am not the chooser
