1. ألمَّا على الوعسا نحيي المحانيا

    ونسفح بالسفح الدموع الجواريا

    When we pass by the valley of Al-Wae'sa, we greet its meadows,

    And spill tears like maidens on its slopes,

  2. وننشر في تلك المحاني تحية

    ونطوي على البرحا ضلوعاً حوانيا

    And spread greetings in those meadows,

    With ribs exposed to affliction.

  3. ونستوقف العيس المراسيل ريثما

    نطالع بالغور الظباء العواطيا

    We stop the companions until we can see,

    The shy gazelles in the valley wander.

  4. اذا الشارب النشوان غنَّى بذكرها

    سلا كاسه وانصاع يحسو الاغانيا

    When the drinker sings his praises,

    His cup overflows and he joyfully sings.

  5. صفى زمن لي بالعذيب ومنهلي

    بذاك الحمى عذب المجاجة صافيا

    My time in Al-Udhayb was clear to me,

    As was my valley there, sweet and pure water.

  6. والتاح وجداً للغميم ومائه

    اذا استنَّ في تلك الخمائل جاريا

    Consolation for the grieving, its water

    Flowing through those vineyards.

  7. وما زلت ابكي دمنة الدار باللوى

    ورمل زرودٍ والنقا والمطاليا

    Still I cry for the home of my tribe,

    The sands of Zaroud, An-Naqa, and the hills,

  8. عشية اخفي الوجد والعين تمتري

    دموعاً كمنفضّ الجمان بواديا

    In the evening I hide my love, my eyes

    Shed tears like the clouds pouring in the valley.

  9. احنّ حنين الفاقدات وارتدي

    بعبرة ثكلى تنزف الدمع قانيا

    I moan with the grief of the bereaved women,

    My tears of loss flow copiously.

  10. حنيناً لو ان الراسيات صغت له

    لتسمعه هدَّ الجبال الرواسيا

    If only the stable mounts could hear my longing,

    It would make even mountains fall.

  11. ولو لم ينلني ابن الرضا خالص الرضا

    لما كنت عن دهري مدى الدهر راضيا

    If not for Ibn Ar-Rida answering my distress,

    I would not have been pleased with my life.

  12. اخو عزمة يعنو الحسام لمثلها

    وذو وثبة تردي الاسود الضواريا

    A brother of Azma, meaning the sword for the like of it,

    With a leap that brings down the fierce lions.

  13. فلو لم يكن شكوى الانام ذريعة

    لأقسمت ان لم يبق في الدهر شاكيا

    If not for people's complaints being an excuse,

    I would swear none would remain complaining.

  14. هو البحر زخاراً هو البدر مشرقاً

    هو الغيث هطالاً هو الليث عاديا

    He is the sea roaring, the moon shining,

    The rain pouring, the lion prowling.

  15. هو الصارم العضب الذي لو هززته

    فللت بغربيه الجراز اليمانيا

    He whose sword, if brandished,

    Would make the Persian skulls in Yemen roll.

  16. فآونة يدني من المجد قاصياً

    وآونة يقصي من المجد دانيا

    One day he comes near glory,

    Another day he distances himself from glory.

  17. فما زال الا واهباً او معاقباً

    وما انفكَّ الا كافياً او مكافيا

    He continues to reward or punish,

    Never ceasing to suffice or reciprocate.

  18. رضيت بصدق الرق عني تكرما

    فاسخطت حسادي وكدت الاعاديا

    I am content with the sincerity of servitude,

    Angering rivals and enemies.

  19. وعين الرضا عن كل عيب كليلة

    كما انَّ عين السخط تبدي المساويا

    The eye of contentment overlooks every flaw,

    As the eye of discontent exposes faults.

  20. وما فيَّ عيب غير انيَ لم يكن

    لغيرك ملقىً في الزمان زماميا

    My only flaw is that none but you

    Has ever held my reins in this world.
