1. أشارت تودع سمارها

    عشية قد يممت دارها

    She bid farewell as evening fell

    On the eve when she left her abode

  2. قضت وطراً بجنوب الحمى

    وما قضت النفس أوطارها

    She journeyed south through the valley's heat

    And her soul completed its journey

  3. وراحت تدفُّ دفيف النعا

    مة تتَّبع العين آثارها

    She walked gently, following with her eyes

    The tracks it had left behind

  4. إذا خطرت بدمقس الحرير

    تهزهز في المشي خطارها

    When she moved in her silken robe

    Its rustling disturbed her gait

  5. نزت لي نفس جموح العنان

    أمانع بالزجر أمّارها

    My defiant soul urged me on

    Though I chided it to restrain itself

  6. وفرعاء ترسل من جعدها

    وعيني ترسل مدرارها

    With her flowing locks and my tears

    Both flowing without restraint

  7. تصدُّ بوجه كزهر الرياض

    تلفُّ بحوذانها غارها

    Her face like a garden's bloom

    Veiled with her luxurious hair

  8. إذا البرق ضاحك حافاتها

    يكلل بالقطر نوارها

    When lightning flashed through her braids

    Crowning her radiance

  9. أسيم اللحاظ ببستانها

    فيقتطف الطرف أثمارها

    I walked through her garden

    Plucking fruits for my eyes

  10. ولم أنس ليلة أنس الجميع

    وقد أفرد الحي ختارها

    Never forgetting the night when all were joyful

    And the neighborhood had chosen her

  11. ليلة أنسٍ صفا جوّها

    وقد ولَّع الطل أسحارها

    A night of pristine joy

    Dawn had kindled its passion

  12. بزغن بجوشنها طُلَّعاً

    غارنق تخجل أقمارها

    Blossoms shone radiantly through her ornaments

    Shaming the stars with their glow

  13. روامٍ بعينٍ كعين المها

    ة نجلاء تشحذ بتّارها

    A fawn-like glance from eyes

    Whetting arrows of mischief

  14. برزن برفرف إفرنجةٍ

    تحلُّ وتعقد زنّارها

    Emerging in fluttering Frankish dresses

    Fastening and loosening her bracelets

  15. تضوَّع طيباً بردع العبير

    خفوق الجلابيب معطارها

    Scented sweetly with wafts of perfume

    From the rustling of her flowing robes

  16. إذا نفحت قلت أيدي التجار

    تقلب من كثب فارها

    Whenever she breathed, it was as if

    Merchants turned over their wares

  17. ورود تنازل عفر الظبا

    ترود الخميلة أزهارها

    Roses vied with the wild flowers

    To match her blossoming beauty

  18. تحلُّ الغبيط سوى أنها

    بعلياء قد أوقدت نارها

    She darkened even the brightest

    Having lit her own fire

  19. علقت بحمر قبيباتها

    لو أنّي أطرّق أستارها

    On her rosy cheeks were dimples

    Could I but lift her veil!

  20. أرانيَ إن زرتُ ذاك الخباء

    جار الغزالة أو جارها

    Were I to visit her bower

    I would find the gazelle or her keeper

  21. خليليَّ قد برقت ديمةٌ

    تريق ببرقة أمطارها

    My love, a shower glistened

    Its raindrops mocking me

  22. إلا ورُد الخمس غدرانها

    وروداً يمانع إصدارها

    But for the roses' betrayal

    Refusing to allow me to pick them

  23. فما ليَ غرُّ بهذِ الدنا

    تغرُّ واصحب غرارها

    Why should I complain of this world

    That entices and entraps with its lies

  24. أسفّ بطيريَ للمطمعات

    أجوب السهول وأوعارها

    I despair for my hopes and dreams

    Roaming its hills and valleys

  25. فيوماً أطالعُ أنجادَها

    ويماً أنازل أغوارها

    One day roving its highlands

    Another descending its depths

  26. أرى الناس درهمها دينها

    صيارف تعبد دينارَها

    People worshipping money as their faith

    Worshipping the gold coins they clutch

  27. تضيِّع في الجود معروفها

    وتحفظ في البخل أعذارَها

    Squandering kindness, hoarding

    Meanness and making excuses

  28. فتنكر نفسيَ عِرفانها

    هي الطير تعرف أوكارها

    So my soul rejects these customs

    The bird knows its own nest

  29. فهلا أريح بجنب الحمى

    رَواحل تحمل أسفارَها

    If only I could rest by the valley

    On the sands of its travels

  30. أزور أخا مضر المكرمات

    ترحب بالجود من زارها

    And visit a generous brother

    Who welcomes guests openly

  31. عليَّ القباب رحيب الجناب

    سبط الرواجب مغزارَها

    His noble nature is welcoming

    The best branch of the most generous tree

  32. كثير قرى الضيف مطعامها

    قليل الهجائن منحارَها

    His abode has abundant food for guests

    But few wretched ones shunning it

  33. أحاديث برهانه جمة

    يصحح بالنص أخبارَها

    Wise conversation and eloquent discourse

    Speaking truth, shunning rumors

  34. تفرَّع من خير جرثومة

    تخيَّرها اللَه واختارها

    A scion of the blessed Hashim

    The noblest line of glorious ancestry

  35. نمته عواقد من هاشم

    على الحسب العدّ أزرارَها

    Without the radiant light of his crown

    Tombs would lack illumination

  36. مفارق أنوار تيجانها

    تبزُّ الفراقد أنوارها

    May God adorn those gardens for him

    And from His bounty, springs flowed forth

  37. لها اللَه زخرف تلك الجنان

    وفجَّر باللطف أنهارَها

    He intended eternal rule for them

    Cut short for others by death

  38. أراد لها الحكم في خلده

    فللطول قصَّر أعمارها

    Who then can grasp their essence?

    Or fathom their mysteries?

  39. فمن أين تدركها كنهها

    ومن أين ترعف أسرارَها

    Destroyers unleashing calamities

    Champions riding into dangers

  40. مغازير تسكب آلاءها

    مغاوير تركب أخطارَها

    As if competing for glory

    Running laps around the race track

  41. تكاد إذا استبَقت بالفخار

    تقطع بالجري مضمارها

    You would only see a lone horseman

    His plaits undone, returning from the fray

  42. فلم ترَ إلا فتىً مصحرا

    عفرني الدياميم مغوارَها

    Smooth-cheeked, seasoned warrior

    Leader of intrepid battalions

  43. قريع المقانب زحّافها

    زعيم الكتائب جرارَها

    With thrusts of his sword trenchant

    To make the coward flee his home

  44. فكم ضربة منه أخدودة

    تقدُّ المجنَّ ومن دارَها

    And stabs of his blade incisive

    The wounds spilling blood like flames

  45. وكم طعنة عنه أخطيفةٍ

    يقيء فمَ الجرح مسبارَها

    O brother of generosity and munificence

    The caravans flock to your abode

  46. أخا الكرم الغمر كم راحة

    لك الركب يمم تيارَها

    It did not hurt us to lose Wusmiyah

    For your hand still rains blessings in March

  47. وما ضرَّنا قلعُ وسمية

    وكفك تسبل آذارَها

    And now Aid returns with the visitors

    Seeking waters to quench their thirst

  48. وذا العيد عاد مع الواردين

    مناهل تخسف آبارها

    Some ask your gift though they already

    Have what you previously granted

  49. تطالبُ عندك موهبةٌ

    له منك قبل قد اشتارَها

    You fast but from sins

    Though your nature sees abstinence as sin

  50. تصوم ولكن عن الفاحشات

    بنفسٍ ترى النسك أفطارَها

    You forcibly restrain yourself from wrong

    Not finding any wrongs requiring vengeance

  51. فدم للعدى مرغماً أنفها

    عدىً منك لا أدركت ثارها
