1. أين السهول من جبال عامل

    حكت مناط الشهب بالكواهل

    Where are the plains compared to the mountains of Aamal

    The meteors told of their heroic shoulders

  2. اخاشبٍ رواسبٍ شوامخ

    بواذخٍ فوارع مواثل

    Stout clubs, deep roots, towering heights

    With gushing springs, parallel roads

  3. عاديَّةٍ بل قبل عادٍ رسخت

    معاقلا للفضل والفواضل

    Ordinary, nay beyond ordinary they took root

    As bastions of virtue and excellence

  4. لو رام اسكندر سدَّ شعبها

    لانشعبت بالملك الحُلاحل

    If Alexander had tried to dam its valleys

    It would not have yielded to the great conqueror

  5. يحجب قرن الشمس مشمخرها

    حتى ترى الهجير كالاصائل

    Its towering peaks hiding the sun

    Until the migrant seems like lightning bugs

  6. من كل طود شامخ عطودٍ

    خوى على العيوق بالكلاكل

    From every towering dune, curved hills

    Swooping down on the ravines with rings

  7. كالكوكب الشرقي قي شروقهِ

    بالجانب الغىبي في المناهل

    Like the morning star at its rise

    On the west side among the springs

  8. كأن من بطنانها ظهرانها

    تحدر سيلاً عرما للسائل

    As if its insides and its outsides

    Poured a torrent for the questioner

  9. اذا النسيم استنَّ في ربوعها

    صحَّ سقيم الروض في الخمائل

    When the breeze whiffed through its expanses

    It cured the sickly in the gardens

  10. اجيل طرفي بمجال وشحها

    كأنها ذات الوشاح الجائل

    I turn my gaze to its plains and aridity

    As if it is the one with the flowing wrap

  11. اصغي ولا يرنُّ لي خلخالها

    ما بال ذات الخال والخلاخل

    I listen and its anklets do not ring for me

    Why so for she who has moles and anklets?

  12. سقياً لها من اربع مربعةٍ

    بكل ربعي الندى من عامل

    I water it from its four squares

    With dew from Aamal in each of my hands

  13. كالبحر الا انه مغلولبٌ

    طاغي العباب ماله من ساحل

    It is like the sea except that it is fettered

    Overflowing, frothing, having no coast

  14. يا هل ترى مساجلاً له وهل

    للبحر ذي التيار من مساجل

    Do you see it has anyone to duel it? Does the sea

    Of currents have any to duel?

  15. ام هل ترى مشاكلاً له وهل

    لزبرقان الأفق من مشاكل

    Or do you see anyone to equal it? Do

    The two horizons have any to equal?

  16. يضمُّ مجدا قشعمياً برده ال

    ضافي وما اتمَّ سنَّ بازل

    It harbors ancient glory in its coldness

    Inviting yet no easier to obtain

  17. اروع ان هزّ يراعه انبرى

    ينفث في الأطراس سحر بابل

    How great if it shook its domains and rose

    It would breathe magic into Babel’s zithers

  18. خضارم من قاسهم بغير هم

    قاس البحار الفعم بالجداول

    Verdant yet harsher than those who clashed with them

    Harsher than seas sculpted by rivers

  19. اجادل الطير ويا شتان ما

    بين بغاث الطير والاجادل

    I contend with the birds, oh what a difference

    Between bird chirping and contention!

  20. اكرم بهم من عامليين غدوا

    بالعلم طعانين لا العوامل

    I honor, more than any Aamali

    Those who became piercing with knowledge, not riches

  21. عواقدٌ على الحجى حباهم

    وان همُ حلُّوا حبا المناضل

    Ties to wisdom - it granted them -

    And if they dissolved, the bonds of struggle

  22. قل في القضاء الفصل مهما نطقوا

    وان تشأ قل في الجراز الفاصل

    Say: judgment’s decision, however they speak

    And if you wish, say: the separator is decisive

  23. تحلُّهم اكرومة الفضل ذرى

    عيطابها تزلُّ رجل الناعل

    The honor of excellence makes them glow

    Its clouds slipping from the sandal strap

  24. سل عاملا تنبئك عنهم أنهم

    هم لذوي السؤال والمسائل

    Ask Aamal, it will tell you about them, that they

    Are for the questioners and the probers

  25. هم المقيلون المنيلون وهل

    سواهم لعثرة ونائل

    They are the sheltering, the attainers, and who

    Other than them for stumbling and goals?

  26. هم يمنعون الضيم عن جارهم

    ان ركبوا في الازم النوازل

    They prevent injustice upon their neighbor

    If fateful events befell

  27. وهم يروّون الثرى في واكفٍ

    يستنبت الأرض بعام ما حل

    They water the soil in dry years

    The land sprouts in a barren year

  28. اذا اعترى طارق ليل حيهم

    لا يبذلون الشاء بالمطافل

    If a night raider disturbs their neighborhood

    They do not trade the sheep for the swords

  29. قبائلٌ لم ترَ في قبالها

    قبائلاً من تغلبٍ ووائل

    Tribes who have never seen

    Tribes like Taghlib and Wael equal them

  30. غطارفٌ وغيرهم زعانفٌ

    ينتهزون فرص الغوائل

    Ghatarif and others like fins

    Seizing chances of ghuael

  31. لم تحوِ غلَ كاشح صدورهم

    تلك سجايا العرب الاوائل

    No hatred has turned their chests

    Those are the ways of early Arabs

  32. يعرف عتق النجر في سماتهم

    كذا اختيار السبَّق الصواهل

    You know the lineage of the purebred in their traits

    Just like the selection of swift steeds

  33. تعرب عن هجانها الشياة في

    تحجيلها والغرر السوائل

    Their liveliness expresses in their

    Adornment and gentle traits

  34. لا غبَّهم قطر غمامٍ باكر

    صبَّحّ قطريهم بغيثٍ وابل

    No early cloud let fall on them a shower

    That greeted their morn with rain and hail
