  1. لكاد البيت ينصدع انصداعا

    وجنب البيت ينخلع انخلاعا

    The house almost splits open with cracks

    And the side of the house is on the verge of collapse

  2. وكم من نكبة شرعت فاردت

    وان قام النجاء بها شراعا

    And how many calamities I embarked upon and repelled

    Even if the salvation raised its sails for it

  3. يسيء بنا الردى مرأىً فأن لم

    يسيء مرأىً اساء بنا استماعا

    Misfortune makes us see evil, so if it does not

    Make us see evil, it makes us hear evil

  4. اذا انقطع الوصول بنا رجعنا

    لأنفسنا التجاءً وانقطاعا

    When access is cut off from us, we resort

    To ourselves, in seclusion and isolation

  5. او اشتجرت قنا لعدٍ وصلنا

    ونقطع ان تشاجرت النزاعا

    Or if our spearheads clash with a stubborn foe, we reconcile

    And cut off if the disputes intensify

  6. وليس تضيق نازلة بخرق

    اذا افضى لها خلقا وساعا

    And no misfortune is too narrow for a

    Spacious character with room to spare

  7. وليس تسيئنا الا المنايا

    اذا ذهبت بانفسنا شعاعا

    And nothing harms us except death

    When it takes away our souls in a flash

  8. ندافعها على ثقةٍ بأنا

    اكفٌّ لا نطيق لها دفاعا

    We defend against it confident

    That we are strong, though unable to resist

  9. نروم اللبث في الدنيا خلوداً

    ويرقبنا الردى ساعاً فساعا

    We seek immortality in this world

    While misfortune watches us hour after hour

  10. وما اتفقت صروف الدهر الا

    على قومٍ قد اختلفت طباعا

    And the turns of fate converge

    Only on a people diverse in nature

  11. اسلنا ما استطاع السيف منها

    دماً ملأ البسيطة ما استطاعا

    Ask what the sword takes from it

    Blood that fills the plain as much as it can

  12. اذا هزَّت بكف فتى قناةٌ

    لمعضلة نهزُّ لها اليراعا

    When a brave man brandishes a spearhead

    For a difficult situation, we shake the banners for him

  13. وأنا للبطاء اذا دعونا

    وان كنّضا الى الداعي سراعا

    And I, when called for slowness, hasten

    Even if we trot to the caller in haste

  14. وكم من فارسٍ منا شجاع

    تنمَّر في الحروب لها شجاعا

    And how many horsemen among us, courageous

    Prowling in wars, courageous for them

  15. واطولها لدى الجلى ذراعاً

    وارحبها لدى الحدثان باعا

    The tallest of them in the melee, an arm's length

    And the widest among adolescents, spans

  16. اذا ما الرّيف حلَّ بدار قوم

    فلم نرحل لأرضهم انتجاعا

    When the countryside settles in the abode of a people

    We do not migrate to their land in pursuit

  17. بوخذ العيس نطلعها الثنايا

    وقبِّ الخيل نحمشها الطلاعا

    With the staff we scout its valleys

    And with the foreheads of horses we scout its hills

  18. جوانح خلفنا الطير العوادي

    لعلم نشبع الطير الجياعا

    Birds of prey behind us,

    Knowing we satisfy the hungry birds

  19. ونأنف عن نزول الارض حتى

    تجنبنا المهابط والتلاعا

    And we refuse to descend to the ground until

    The landing places and hills avoid us

  20. نقيم ببقعة للمجد خصَّت

    وفيض نوالنا عمّ البقاعا

    We reside in a spot singled out for glory

    And our bounty covers all regions

  21. ومن اشرى اصطفى بالمال عزما

    يردّ اسود خفَّان ضباعا

    And whoever buys the resolve of the chosen with money

    Repels black wild dogs

  22. فلا تحزن لرزقٍ او متاع

    فأن لكل ساقطة متاعا

    So do not grieve for sustenance or possessions

    For everything fallen has possessions
