O water-bearer of the radiant quarter
Dispensing rain at the station of the train
A quarter of joy, how much joy we shed there
Where the virgins’ coquetry abounded
Blessed were those days of past companionship
In the fever, between these houses
When a lively one circulated among us
With cups that swayed like rivulets
And we inclined to sip the wine of gatherings
From the heat of his mouth, not from medicine
In gardens whose corners were scented
By the fragrance of lavender and roses’ breath
Whenever a north wind blew upon us
It blew from itself the spreading of aromas
Many a night I stayed up, sleepless
Restless, until the light of dawn appeared
The memory of a visit in the fever stirred me
Pity me from afar at the tomb
If another contends with me in love
I am not one who contends in love of the beautiful
