1. وصلت بحبل من اميمة اطول

    وقطعت اسباب الحجى والتجمُّل

    I have come with a rope of longing, so very long

    And cut off the causes of vanity and adornment

  2. اذا ابتسمت عنبارق الثغر واضحاً

    طربت الى برق ببرقة حومل

    When she smiles with shining white teeth

    I rejoice to lightning with lightning in the darkness

  3. وان خطرت يهتزُّ خلف ازارها

    كثيب تكاد الريح تسفيه من عل

    And if she sways, her buttocks shake

    Behind her gown, like a dune about to be blown away

  4. تنوء به ملء الرداء مرجرجاً

    ترجرج دعص الرملة المتهيل

    She staggers under the weight of her overflowing gown

    Swaying like a palm tree heavy with dates

  5. اذا اقبلت أو ادبرت خلت بانةً

    بقمصانها تهتزُّ او فرع اجدل

    Whether she comes or goes, she leaves a glittering trail

    With her robes fluttering, or a bending palm branch

  6. تميس بمجدولٍ وتزهو بزاهر

    وتعطو بمحلولٍ وترنو باكحل

    She touches with grace, blossoms with beauty

    Captivates with glances, and paints with kohl

  7. اغازل منها عين ادماء تدري

    لها بجنوب القاع خشفين مغزل

    I flirt with her gentle doe eyes, knowing

    In the valley's depths, she has a spindle to spin

  8. الا نظرات مذعورةٌ وسط ربرب

    تصادى بعيني مُلحم الصَّيد اجدل

    Oh, those frightened glances amidst the bustling crowd

    Meeting my ardent eyes head on

  9. تردُّ نهار اليوم ينشد شمسَه

    بليلٍ من الفرع الدجوجي اليل

    The light of day returns, searching for its sun

    In a night of the dark and towering palm tree

  10. احمٍّ غدا في اثيثٍ مجعدٍ

    على متنها جثل النبات معثكل

    It nests tomorrow on her soft, curling tresses

    Where the plants' pollen sticks, scattered

  11. اذا شطرته الريح راح مخصَّلا

    تخصُّل منفض السحاب المجلجل

    When the wind stirs it, it falls apart

    Like clouds breaking up and tumbling down

  12. خليلي ما قولي لقلبي سوى احتدم

    ولا لدموعي غير قولي لها اهملي

    My love, what can I say to my burning heart

    Except to tell my tears to stop their flow

  13. وما انهلَّ صوب الدمع الا مُعرضاً

    ليمسك صوب العارض المتهلل

    And it only inclines towards tears reluctantly

    To glance towards the cheek with laughter

  14. وكم قائلٍ والليل مدّ هواديا

    واردف اعجازا وناخ بكلكل

    How many times has someone called in the night

    As the darkness stretches out and thickens

  15. ايرتجع الليل القصير لقائلٍ

    الا ايها الليل الطويل الا انجلي

    Does the short night return to one who calls

    Oh long night, do not depart
