لم ينج منك الريث والأغذاذُ
والدمع مني وابلٌ ورذاذُ
The weak and strong could not escape you,
And my tears are a downpour and spray.
يلتذُّ منك معذب بعذابه
حتى كأنَّ عذابك استلذاذُ
A tortured one takes pleasure from you in his torment,
As if your torment was pleasurable indulgence.
متعوذ باللَه خوفاً لم يكن
لي في جفاك سوى هواك معاذ
Seeking refuge in Allah out of fear, there was not
For me other than your love as refuge.
فكأن قلبك حين تعرض صخرة
عادية وفؤادك الفولاذُ
So it's as if when you act harsh your heart is
A normal rock while your heart is steel.
لنزلت من أفلاذ قلبي منزلا
فاستوسقت بنزولاك الأفلاذ
You settled in the most cherished part of my heart,
And with your settling the most cherished became wounded.
لذنا بوصلك من صدورك برهة
يا من به منه إليه ملاذُ
We indulged with your companionship for a while
O you whom in it from it to it is refuge.
ونبذته نبذ الحصاة تهاوناً
وأخو الغرام لقلبه نبّاذ
And you discarded it the discarding of a pebble indifferently
While the lover's heart is easily discarded.
علَّقت من خبل براسي عوذة
لو تنفع الأحراز والأعواذ
I hung a talisman of insanity on my mind
As if charms and talismans could be of use.
لولا السماوة ما طربت لبلدة
تحت السما ولو أنَّها بغذاذ
If not for tolerance I would not be enchanted with a land
Under the sky even if it is most fertile.
جذاذ حبل الوصل يا بأبي وبي
رشأ لحبل وصاله جذّاذ
Puller of the rope of connection, O my father and my loving one,
Repairer of its rope, puller.
بك لي جوىً بين الأضالع نافذ
والدمع ليس له عليك نفاذ
In you I have burning embers in my ribs
And tears have no effect on you.
لذنا بوصلك من صدورك عنوة
إذ ليس غيرك في الملاح ملاذ
We indulged with your companionship by force
Since there is no refuge in estrangement.
لا ضير لو قد راح ينقض مبرما
مناع ما طلب الهوى أخّاذ
No harm if the firm covenant hastens to unravel
A refuge whom desire did not fully seize.
ولقد صبرت وعدت فيك إلى الهوى
لولا الهوى ما اعتاد لي استحواذ
And I was patient and returned to you in love
If not for love, monopoly would not become habit for me.
